Weather
The temperature in Tasmania can change very suddenly. Sudden storms can appear as well as rain. Snow is also susceptible during the summer seasons. (8) Accommodations Around the park you may find the ranger station, lodge, restaurant and many other resources accessible to the public. (8) (2) What do Tasmanian Devils eat? Are they carnivores? No, they are not carnivores. They are considered marsupial predators. Tasmanian Devils tend to eat birds, lizards, insects and smaller mammals. (9) Safety There are guides available at any time if you have any questions or concerns. There will be someone or multiple professionals attending the longer hikes with you for safety precautions. (8) Feeding the Animals Feeding the animals is strictly prohibited in Cradle Mountain- Lake St. Clair National Park. Fines will be appointed if caught feeding the animals. Parks rangers will be patrolling the park frequently. (12) (2) Camping There are campsites located around the park as well as a few cabins. For camping, please pay your fees ahead of time. (12) |
Hiking
The Overland Track takes about six days, but side trips for example, up Mount Ossa, can double your trip time. Short hikes around the park are very common as well and time will vary. (8) Other Activities Although Cradle Mountain- Lake St. Clair National Park is mostly know for the adventurous hikes and scenic routes, we offer cruises along Lake Saint Clair as well as panoramic flights aboard a helicopter. (8) (2) sdInhabitants There are many natives living in and around the area, so please be courteous to the homes of other people. Please pick of all trash and waste. (7) Origin Gustav Weindorfer first visited Cradle Mountain in 1910 and really liked it. He purchased the land and built lodges for visitors. (7) Park Passes Current park passes must be purchased for entry to the national park. At Cradle Mountain, park passes can be purchased at the Visitor Centre before the park entrance.
