Environmental Factors
Abiotic Factors: (anything that is not living in a biome) (1)
Rain/Water - The amount of rain affects plant and animal survival. Without water, plants and animals grow or even live to reproduce. Do to the increased amount of rain in the tropical rainforest biome, the environment can support many diverse animals. Sunlight - Light will affect the growth and reproduction of plants. An increased amount of sunlight increases the photosynthesis and leads to more vegetation. Temperature - Temperature can severely affect the environment. If the temperature is too high, plants and animals will dehydrate. If it is too low, many organisms won't be able to adapt to the colder weather and won't be able to reproduce. Nutrients/Soil - Without proper nutrients, plant will not be able to reproduce. The animals who eat those plants will eventually run out of their food source and will be forced to find another. Wind - Wing affects the reproduction of plants by increasing the photosynthesis rate. With little wind, the plant population will decrease as well as the animal populations over time. If the amount of wind is increased, the reproduction of plants will increase as well as the animal population that eats these organisms. |
Biotic Factors: (anything living within the biome) (1)
Trees- Trees provide a large amount of energy for many animals in this ecosystem. If this environmental factor is removed, all the animals who rely on trees as a food source will decline as well as the species higher up in the food chain. Insects- Insects are great detritivores. Many insects eat plants in the ecosystem but they also decompose dead matter. Their job is to replenish the soil for plants and be a food source for other animals. Amphibians- There are many frogs, dragons, and sinks found in this environment. They are a predator to many insects but prey to many birds. Without them, the insect population will increase and the birds will decrease. Reptiles- There is an abundance of snakes living in the temperate rainforest biome. They eat small mammals as well as a few amphibians. They are hunted by eagles and other large birds as well. If this food source disappears, the bird population will increase. Birds- The birds in this ecosystem are at a higher level on the food chain than others. If they were removed from the environment there would be an increase in the prey population. |
